ANCHOR: Now for fashion in India. The glory of traditional north-western Rajasthan fashion goes on display at the Lakme Fashion Week being held in India’s western Mumbai. And an added attraction this year is a day for men’s wear. STORY: Indian designer Pallavi Jaipur showcases colorful fusion wears using georgette, chiffon and silk fabrics in a vast color palette for the upcoming season. [Pallavi Jaipur, Indian Designer]: “I think all sorts of colors, from ivories, to beiges, to pinks, peaches, lilacs, I have got turquoise, I think I have got all the colors that I could have used, because collection is Spring/Summer and its always good to work with colors.” One of the models, an actress, walks the ramp in a green and gold sari. [Rituparna Sengupta, Actress]: “I am feeling nice. The traditional look of Jaipur has always been my favorite; I like Bandhani (a type of dyeing practiced mainly in the states of Rajasthan) and other embroideries of Jaipur. So when Pallavi told me that I have to walk in Jaipuri look I became very happy. She has done an excellent job.” Pallavi uses traditional embroidery of Rajasthan for wrap-arounds, hipster skirts and long blouses with tiny Jaipur prints. There are also knee length swinging skirts and dresses with silver hemlines, all with scattered floral embroidery. The event will also provide a platform for fresh designers in the Emerging Designer Category shows. Ten new designers will unveil their calibre this year.
