how to embroider sewing over paper find something you would like to copy and cover with thread

This is the best way to embroider. Just sew right over the image of something you cut out of the newspaper, magazine, book, packaging, product label. If paper is too thick just photocopy, reduce, enlarge as necessary. There is no sense cutting it out when the needle will do the work for you. There is also no sense in tracing the outline onto your material. No cutting instrument is necessary to accomplish the task.So many steps are saved by a simple bit of intuition. You can multitask and save yourself time in the process of creating a masterpiece worth of exhibit in your local or national gallery. You will be surprised at how easy it is go from a paper image to an embroidered design that will win you compliments and praise.I have very little experience with a sewing machine. If I were to spend time everyday I could gain the skills to be much better. The key to embroidery is thread tension, ensuring the piece moves smoothly under the foot, being sure your fabric is thick or stiff enought that it does not draw together(starch may solve the problem)etc. All this comes with practice and time.Any picture can be sewn over. The paper will remain underneath forever(hidden or barely noticeable) but it saves so much time.Have multiple copies of your picture and glue it with water soluble glue if necessary to keep it from moving shifting around.I rarely sew and I am a guy so my skill is low.I have made bags and a pair of pants before but embroidery requires more finesse.Start with simple things

What would be the best embroidery machine for starting a small “baby clothes” business?

Monday, May 31st, 2010

My mom and I are thinking about starting a small business doing embroidery (custom-made to order) on baby-kids items. I am slightly overwhelmed in the selection of embroidery machines! I know that we want one that has the ability to be hooked up to the computer for additional templates. Price really isn’t a factor in the decision making. We also want one that has a big enough area to do larger items, like bloomers, or tee shirts and even bags if possible. if any one has any ideas that would great!

What model of sewing machine would you recommend for a complete novice?

The kind of projects I’d like to attempt are simple clothes for my kids and tote bags and to be able to repair/ hem clothing. I’ve never used a sewing machine in my life. My only experience with needle and thread is cross-stitch and replacing buttons. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
